Today’s Brighton Bike Hub grew out of a community based campaign in 2009 for better air quality and improved sustainable transport options along Brighton’s Lewes Road corridor called ‘Lewes Road for Clean Air’. Our Bike Train project, from 2010 ran daily ‘safety-in-numbers’ group rides from central Brighton to University sites at Falmer, pushing for better cycle lane provision along this route, which was realised in 2014. Following this success, that same year, our efforts shifted focus from rides to repairs and we opened our first community workshop at Circus Street in central Brighton. In 2015 we relocated to Preston Barracks and then again in 2017 to our current site at St Martin’s Place.
Since 2009 we have run over a thousand Bike Train group rides joined by around 10,000 riders. At our workshops we have refurbished and sold around 3,000 bikes and helped thousands of customers repair theirs.
